Bill Kennelly's Story of Hypertext
Why was Hypertext Developed
Hypertext systems were developed because of a need to manage the vast amount of knowledge already available. A way of storing this information and linking relevant pieces of information together needed to be developed. There are lots of different hypertext systems, most of them share the basic aim to allow quick and efficient access to the stored data.
The World Wide Web and the internet are probably the most famous hypertext systems today, but we cannot forget the concepts of the Memex, or the huge impact that the creation of the NLS (on-line system) and its by products such as the mouse, email and a windows environment has had on the computing world as a whole.
